Why does a phone number have to me used for our account number and other multi-site issues

Please fix multi-site so that it does not have to be associated to an office and/or phone number. We have six offices and our corporate office in New York is called "Main Site" whereas all our other site are know by their city. This causes confusion among staff and ire among the other offices in that they are not good enough to be the "main site". On top of that, there are other areas in the admin site where the main site is known as the "Company" - -so the other offices are not part of the company? Trust me, this type of jealousy with corporate offices exists and can eat away at people. Why isn't there just an "account name" that isn't associated to any one site?

Also, our account number is the main site (New York) main line office phone number. Every time we send a new employee the invitation to activate account, they are asked to use the main site number and their local extension number. You would not believe how much confusion this caused during our ramp up. We had offices thinking they had no main line number, they were telling our client s to call New York and then their local extension. It was not easy trying to make everyone understand their offices had their own identity.

Oddly, when I brought this up to our project manager, he agreed and said that in their own internal Salesforce system, there actually is a real account number that is not a phone number!!!

Vasquez - We have over 1,000 users and I agree that the reference to a main number and an extension number is very confusing to end users. When we were porting over offices and sending Welcome emails many users thought they were losing their existing direct phone numbers.
