Is there a way to keep my status active while I'm working in another program

I am currently working remotely and using RingCentral to communicate with my team. But unless RC is the active window, my status will time out and it looks like your not online. Is there a way to tie in my status to my keyboard activity? This is the way the software worked at my last job, so everyone could see you were actively working.
