In the RingCentral SoftPhone, a colored circle is used to distinguish presence (Available, Busy, DND). However, if someone is color blind, using a different color to distinguish presence is not functional. It would be nice to have an option to use different shapes or symbols to distinguish presence instead of color alone.

Not to get too preachy here, but it's also part of the standards required for the spirit of the ADA and documented as part of the US Refreshed 508 Compliance (based on WCAG, just in case there weren't enough acronyms in this sentence.)  See the "Use of Color" guideline in WCAG for the weedy details on this whole "color-only" indication of presence topic.

Hopefully RingCentral's product team has Accessibility on their radar (and for more than just blind and low vision users). When communication is your company's fundamental raison d'etre, ensuring access to the same functionality and information for everyone is a really important part of delivering products.

Just more reason to upvote/prioritize this feature enhancement/bug fix (depending on how you view it).

Will step off the soap box now. :-)

We would like to promote this thread but add a suggestion.  We would prefer to have specific icons to choose from for several different presence reasons.  We'd like to see a picture of food for lunch, a plane for traveling, a door for "gone for the day", a group of people for meetings, a check mark for available, a beach umbrella for vacation, a coffee cup for break time and a medical bag for out sick.  By utilizing pictures we can eliminate confusion. We're also requesting that you can set a return time.  It should default to the next hour but allow you to change the date, hour and minute of return.  Also, if the text box that you can type in a note about where you are could save the last entry per specific presence setting so that the next time you use that setting, the verbiage is already entered for you.  If you have any questions, please let us know.
