I have a Cisco IP Phone, Model SPA525G. There are 5 green lights. Is it possible to have a different phone number associated with each green light?

Hi Bill,

What are you looking to accomplish? Do you have several businesses and depending on what you are doing you want a different caller ID number to be displayed on the recipient's phone?

If not and to directly answer your question, you could assign different lines to the phone but would not be able to use presence.

I think there may be other options if I knew what your goal was?

If you want to get a bit more detailed, e-mail me directly

In the event my question can help someone else.

Thanks much Chuck

I have two numbers (xxx) 962-4000 and (xxx) 699-3219.

As it relates to the 5 green lights on my phone, I would like to be able to push the first green button and have it associated with 3219, and the second light associated with 4000.

Is only one number assigned to the phone now? or is each number assigned to a different physical phone?

I know you could easily make a change in the account to select a different number for that phone. But not sure if that is what you are looking to do.

At this time I don't think you could make that selection from the phone.

What about when receiving calls?

Are both numbers routed to your phone?

I have just this one phone, and receiving calls is not a problem. I just want to be able have a different number for a line. So if I push the first button it uses the 4000 number and the second button uses 3219.

I was looking to do exactly this as well.

In our example we have two numbers:

1) Main phone line
2) A leasing line

They have different call routings, but in the end, they often ring the same person. One is a higher priority to answer than the other so it would be ideal to know which one is ringing before answering.

I hate to use two physical phones to accomplish this?

What we do for our numbers is make an extension with a name for that number and connect the number to it. Then, we enable presence and ring my phone when a user monitored rings (depending on call handling), so when someone dials the specific number, we can see which one it is and answer accordingly, or know that we can't let it go t voice mail, etc. This is the solution we use s we don't have t deal with pressing 1 before connecting business or call screening.

Hi Bill,
Did you sort this out? I have SPA508 and want to assign 2 phone lines to the same desk phone. Please let me know how you did it.
Thanks,
San

Hi San,
Wish I could say that RS had a fix, but I had to give up on them many months ago.  If you can get them to help you fix this issue, please advise, because I am sure that you and I are not the only one's with this problem.  As of today, I don't think there is a fix to this issue.

This is on my wishlist as well.  There are instances everyday when I would like to be able to select which number I am calling out on using my desk phone.   After being able to do this with a local PBX,  I'm really missing it now.

Perhaps if we put enough pressure on RS, they can fix this.  I cannot imagine in this day in age that one cannot write some code for their system to accomplish what must be a very simple solution to so many people's problem.

Hey Guys, I was talking to my tier 3 engineer about this issue and here is what information I found out.

The first question I have is what is the goal?  Are you looking to have a certain caller ID number show up on the recipients end?  If that is the case then there are other ways but it cant be done from the phone.

You could add in as Company numbers $4.99 extra per month per number.  Then in the extension assigned to your phone you could choose outbound caller ID, pick the number you want to show and make your call.  You see you will need to be logged in to the portal to make the change before you make the call.

If this does not work for you there is a more expensive option.  Depending on the phone you have and if it is Locked (Purchased from RC or unlocked, purchased from another source) you could add an additional line to your account and we could then manually provision this line with associated number to your phone.

The other caviot with this method is you CANT use the presence feature.  If you have no need for presence and you want to pay more to just activate it from your phone then you have a solution.  If staying logged in to the portal is acceptable you could get away with $4.99 per month extra and a couple of clicks

I hope this helps

Thank you

Hi Chuck,

Thank you for looking into this.  Please note that I'm approaching this as a feature request and not a complaint about RingCentral.

I realize that through the RingCentral website, I am able to switch the outgoing caller id between my direct dial number and my main company number.  I also realize that this can be done quickly through the softphone app.  However there are times when I am at my desk and my laptop is in its bag, it's in sleep mode, or I'm not logged into the RingCentral site.  It would be convenient to have one line  button (Line 2)on my Cisco SPA525G2 configured to dial out using the outgoing caller id of my direct dial number while line 1 uses the caller id of our main business number.

Previously, I had this feature on an in-house PBX and used it quite a bit.  If the programmers can work on it for a future release I'd appreciate it.

I agree, it should be able to be done from the phone.  I just wanted others to know the options

I will make sure it gets entered as a feature request

Thanks

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Can I program multiple desk phones using the same phone number?.

I have a phone at my office but I spend half my time working from my home office. Is it possible to program both phones with the same number? I don't want to add another line to our account.

Seeing as I asked this question Two Years ago, I'd say it's safe to assume we will never have the ability to do this, even though it seems like a super simple fix and something that many of us could really use.

I believe you are correct Bill, but I'll try to get a firm answer. I don't think they'll add this feature. It's my understanding that by enabling this it would block other more desirable features.

I too am very interested in this. I do work over the phone with clients in 3 different cities. They can all call me through the numbers I pay $4.99 a month for. However, on outgoing calls I would like to choose the phone number that I call out from so it shows that I am local. The only workaround I see is to use the RingOut service on a different device such as the app on the computer which allows me to select outbound caller ID, and then answer the desk phone to be connected to my customer.

Joshua,  here are a couple links showing the options for changing the Outbound
Caller ID.

How do I change the Outbound Caller ID?

I also support this feature request. We already have line buttons on the phone. Why not allow me to select it and automatically have each line be tied to an outbound caller id.

I see this feature being requested over different topics. Would be nice to join them all together to get a stronger request.

To me the main reason for this request is because I own 3 businesses and would like to be able to call from my deskphone showing business a, b or c as the caller id. On the desktop app and phone app I can select my caller id. But on the deskphone I can't.

I asked this very same question over three years ago.  Here we are and we still can't have the most simplest of features.  Not sure if its Ring Central or Cisco's issue, but it damn sure should be fixed by now.

Still no update?  We now have the same issue, 3 different phone numbers for 3 different businesses, all routed through one phone.

it would be cool to be able to use different keys as different caller ID's but im not sure thats how the presence keys are intended for use. not sure how to make the caller ID be any easier to change than it is now where you log into your extension and change outbound caller ID.

If anyone can get this done, we'll all send you a bonus check.  I started this thread 4 years ago, so I'm not holding out any hope at all.  RC either does not care or they don't know how to do it.

Bill, I have tried to get more details about what you want to accomplish 4 years ago and you did not engage.  At the end of the day the assisted provisioning will only configure the line 1 and 2 and the rest could be used for presence.  There is a manual provisioning process but most people will not do it because of complexity and not being fully supported.

So share what you are trying to accomplish and we could respond

Thanks

What are you talking about not engaging?  I even sent you an email 4 years ago, plus there are an additional SEVEN emails on this same thread.   If you don't understand the issue that myself and all of the others are referring to, then perhaps that's why continuing this conversation is a waste of time. Go read from the beginning if you want more details.

yeah, im leaning toward it might not be an idea that is easily figured out, the keys (green lights on your phone) arent made for altering or programming style changes, theyre more for 1 touch dialing to another extension if there's a way for it to be changed im not sure how much it would vary from the way it currently is which is users being able to change it per phone on the fly per call, and not just a one touch to change caller ID option, which is what it sounds like you'd like. i dont think that means they dont care, just may not be plausible.

Bill,  Sorry for the lack of response on this thread.  We get hundreds of feature requests here on the Community and our product team does not have time to respond to every post.  For those users that would like to see this implemented, please comment and provide your best use case scenarios.  If this topic receives more votes then it will raise the flag and might get prioritized some day.

I'll just post here again that this is an important feature to have, allowing me to choose which line I'm calling outbound from my deskphone. I'm curious as to what other features are being worked on that are perceived as more important....maybe giving us the chance to choose where customer priority lies would help you guys to prioritize feature development.

There are a variety of reasons we often do not advertise future release features, but, you can get a good idea of what other users are asking for right here on the Community.  From the home page, you can click "Ideas"  then filter by either "me too's (which are votes)" or by "number of replies".  This way you can see the demand, activity, etc for each idea submitted here on the Community.  Keep in mind, this is the only source of data our product team uses, and the prioritization process is quite complex so there's not any hard rule as far as number of votes or any other criteria before something gets implemented.

The best thing users like yourself can do is comment, and vote on these threads.  When you comment, be detailed in the request and always include a use case scenario showing how your business will benefit from such features.

Having the ability to have a Desktop Phone with Two separate Lines, and the Ability to Select The Line you call out from, as well as have it flash on an inbound call seems pretty rudimentary. 2 Line POTS Phones were doing this in the 80's? When I manually log into the Polycom IP550, I can see the phone has the ability to host up to 4 separate lines. Why Couldn't I just Provision each of these lines with different RC credentials/user information? I had this feature on my polycom ip550 with Fonality/NetFortris previously, same phone, worked like a charm... The ability of one physical desktop phone being able to have separate lines on it is of great advantage to many users.

Hello Alex,

This may be possible with certain phone models but it is not supported by RingCentral. Therefore, we don't have any documentation on how to do so.

I would suggest taking Chuck up on his offer. His comment is right below.
