User Settings: longer/shorter voicemail recording times.

Currently, when people call and leave a voice-mail they can only record a message for 3 minutes and then they get cut off.  With our profession, there are times when other doctors/professionals need to call and leave extended messages.  With the current limit, sometimes the caller will need to call several times and leave several messages.  It would be great if there was an option to remove this 3 minute limit or change the 3 minute limit.  Thanks for considering this as an update to the current system.

Mike, I very much agree with Erin's post/request.  I have asked for information about this with three different Ring Central reps over the past two years only to hear that it is a good idea or is being considered.  It seems very reasonable to me that businesses should be able to shorten or lengthen the duration of their voicemail recording times.

Even worse, if the person leaving the message uses the full 3 minutes the default is to delete their message if they do not press "3."  The default with every other phone company is to keep the recording as is--not to delete it. Sometimes callers think that the message will be retained if they just hang-up after 3 minutes--not true with RingCentral.

Thanks,  Brad

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled New messages deleted if "3" is not pressed.

When callers leave a message that reaches the full three minutes of allotted recording time RingCentral's default is to delete the caller's message if they do not
press "3."  The default with other phone companies is to
keep the recording as is--not to delete it.

Sometimes callers think that the
message will be retained if they just hang-up when they reach the recording--not true with
RingCentral--it will be deleted.  We have had callers contact us days later asking why we did not return their message.  It seems like sometimes they have left long messages and not hit the "3" or they have hung up at the end of their message not realizing that the message timed-out in the seconds that they were hanging up.

Ring Central:  Please change the default!  We do not want to be losing clients to this flaw!

Even better:  Allow us to extend the recording time beyond 3 minutes if we choose.

Thanks,

Brad

Has this been addressed with the Technician's?  This Three-(3) minute timer hang-up delete default is a very serious flaw in programming.  Hit "LIKE" in the upper right corner so this gets moved up in Priority for consideration.

My clients are not happy that they can only leave a three minute message in voicemail. It would be great if a client can leave as long a message as they want and then press a key on the phone to end the message or allow us to select 10 minute, 20 minute, etc., longer lengths of voicemail time limits. Please fix this issue ASAP. Still really enjoy RingCentral - Great Product and Service. Thank you.

Mike,

I'm certain that your business might need to be provided information that might be lengthy in nature. Having said that, a voicemail that is 10 minutes, 20 minutes or longer is not a voicemail in my opinion...it is a one-person conference call. The definition of a message is a short communication sent from one person to another or the central theme or idea of a communication.

An average speaker (not fast or slow but normal conversation) can speak an average of 150 words per minute. The average number of words in a chapter of a novel is around 3,400 words. (Both of these figures were acquired through several internet searches and were found on multiple sites).  That would mean that a 20 minute voicemail message would be the equivalent of reading a chapter of a novel into a phone voicemail.

In my humble opinion, and your mileage might vary greatly, but if a client has that long of a message (the equivalent of 10 pages or so in a novel) there should be a different way of acquiring that information. Other ways might be dictating into a Word document then uploading that file to an FTP site or utilizing some other on-line dictation/transcription services options.

So as not to incite a flame-war, which is truly not my intent, the above is only my opinion.  [Disclaimer - I am a RingCentral user like yourself and am not a RC employee]. While I definitely do not debate your business's need to acquire certain potentially lengthy pieces of information, is voicemail the only viable option? Could it possibly be that your clients repeat themselves a lot or do not get to the point which causes a 30 second to one-minute message to become a 3 minute or longer message?

Would it be better to advise your clients in your voicemail greeting that they will have three minutes to leave their information and if the information will take longer than that  they  should call a  different extension where a live operator can take and record the information the client provides?

Just some thoughts to consider....

Jan,

Very relevant point and a good answer.  The only two professions that I can think of off-hand that may require such a lengthy voicemail is either the legal profession or Real Estate.  However, being in the legal profession myself I have always found 3 to 5 minutes a fair amount of time to leave a message.  Other than that, they contact me personally on my cell phone.

Admins should be able to change how long the max voicemail can be..

Our customers get distracted and then come back to silence and get upset when they think we hung up on them. They need something to let them know they are on a voicemail, in case they failed to pay attention and hear the announcement the first time. Most all other voicemail systems will have an operator come on after 20 seconds to give you more options. We should be able to change how long a voicemail can be as well as have options for the operator who follows up on the recording. It would be amazing if there was also an option to allow the caller to add on to what they had already recorded, in the case that the set max is not enough for them.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS!

Hello Team,

I'd like to add my vote to increase the maximum voicemail duration to more than 3 minutes. Thank you!

Hello - I'd like to increase the amount of time a person has to leave a voicemail as well. We constantly get cut-off messages and can not return calls!

I am new to Ring Central and would like to see this 3 minute vm limit increased to no limit.  I have a user that dictates to his secretary over her voicemail and is a bit angry about this limit and the fact that the message disappears if he does not press 3 in time.

You can see that this issue is of no concern to Ring Central, at least not in the last two years that this has been an issue.  I agree with you that something has to be done, but they are slower than molasses in winter to do something about it.
This still hasn't been taken care of....although, agent told me to post it here.....I want both the ability to limit the length of the message, and the message should not be removed. Ring central actually makes more money from me because spoofers are going into messaging and able to hang on for over 4 minutes!k and then it gets erased!  So then my account goes over time and automatically up-charged.
