I am ready to cancel my account over this.  My company uses RingCentral for fax ONLY.  We do not need 90% of the bloat on the desktop app, but the 10% of features we DO use are GONE.

Issue 1--I send faxes on behalf of several people from this station.  In the previous app I could change the name of the sender in the settings every time I sent a fax.  That feature is now gone.  I can't see who the fax is coming from, in fact, until I have a sent copy.  Huge fail.

Issue 2--I can't put a NAME to send a fax to, only phone numbers.  I send tons of one-time faxes.  It would be a huge waste of time and space in my contacts to add each person I fax--especially if I am only faxing once.  What happened to the screen that allows you to enter the NAME of the person receiving the fax??

Issue 3--Creating customized templates--I used to be able to work with already created templates from RingCentral and add our logo or change font sizes and it was done, now it appears I have to create them from scratch in Word??

Issue 4--There needs to be an app or something for people who do not use the voice service.  Faxing is all we are going to use, and the millions of options relating to calls and messaging are just clutter for those of us paying for fax only.

My understanding is that even if I backload the previous app, I am going to be forced at some point to use the new one.  With the drastic removal of customization options I can't see staying with this service.  If I can't identify who a fax is to without putting that person in my contacts, and I can't change the name of who it is FROM, this service is worthless to me.

Am I the only one completely frustrated with this update?

HI Elizabeth,  Thanks for your post and expressing your concerns. Everything you mention above has been under review and/or in progress for some time.  I can't promise that we'll get all the request that you are asking for implemented, but we have a steady stream of features that are constantly in the pipeline to improve the product and you should see some improvements coming in the next few months.  I just can't promise you what exactly or a specific time.  However, to assure that your ideas are seen and carry some weight, you may want to view this link: https://community.ringcentral.com/ringcentral/categories/ringcentral_faxing?topic-list[settings][typ... which shows a list of all the Fax related "idea" topics, where you can click the "like" button on the topics you would like to see impemented, and add comments to any of them that you wish.

Regarding the old app, you are correct, that you can indeed install it, but at some point it will be retired and you'll have to switch back to the new app again.

I am definitely switching back if I can find that installer--I'm confused frankly why this version was released with so many missing pieces.  I'm not sure that what I'm asking for are FEATURES...these are basic parts of fax functionality (entering who it's TO? Indicating who it's FROM?) and they were already part of the previous incarnation.  I'm just at a loss why these basic items were removed.  The entire "Settings" option seems much, much less detailed and provides far few options.

While I'm sure there are neat bells and whistles I could think of that could improve the app, at this point I'm looking for basic functionality to be restored--I'm not sure if that goes under "ideas."

But geez, guys, if it ain't broke...

Someone should consider an app for those of us just using the Fax function, that's the only idea that I think should be available that is currently not something used before.

Could not agree more, it was not broken and I miss the ability to see what faxes I sent, and you were able to see all your messages, both sent and received and add a comment without going online to the Ring Central website.

I have been reading all the complaints for the last 2 months, and nothing has changed. I went back to the legacy system as I was told, and I cannot attach a document. When I call Ring Central support, they told me they cannot support the legacy system with any solutions.

Here's a page that has the download links for the Legacy phone if you wish to convert back.
Downloading and installing the RingCentral Legacy Softphone on a Windows computer

I'll change this thread to an "idea" topic for the gathering interest in having a separate "Fax Application".
