Yes, we also cannot text from main number on the google app even though we are logged in as the operator extension.

Main number, I do notice if someone sends a text to the main number and I reply it replies as the main number.  It is just when I start(compose) a text to a new person.

Yes logged in as the operator ext.  Incoming text comes to that ext and I can reply and the go back out as the main number.  It is when I start a new text to someone new.  It has only the direct number listed which I cannot change and sends it from the direct number on the google app.

Jason, you should be able to see the Main Number in the drop down (from) when generating a new SMS.

I hit the drop down and it only shows my direct line on compose text in the google app. Version 2.3.3

We don't see it either. In the Windows and Android Softphone app - we can select from our numbers when txting or calling. In the Google App, logged into the operator extension just like on Windows, we cannot. The extension number shows up in what appears to be a 'pulldown' menu, but the only entry is the extension number. Same for the dialing screen - the 'dialed from' number is always the extension number even though it appears in a pulldown.

I've tried logging in multiple different ways - no luck. Now when txts are received on our company numbers they (usually) show up in the Google App and can be replied to like Jason noted. (We have varying problems getting txts received on those numbers but occasionally it works)

Since we use Chromeboxes for our desktops these days - the Google App is vital to getting the most out of our RC service (right now we have to send txts from a smartphone or our one Windows computer at our counter)

Is this in the RingCentral for Google plugin?  Does it appear differently with the drop-down in the Desktop app?

Yes this is the google app.  The problem with the desktop app is it does not have access to my google contacts so I have not contacts in there.  I cannot spend several hours a week manipulating data to update and import all our new contacts into the desktop app to text clients.  Or for IT Express they are using Chromeboxes as he mentioned so he is would using the google apps with an actual deskphone with no desktop app.

The Google App Extension does not have all the features of the RingCentral for Windows.  I recommending using the desktop app to fill this gap with SMS until the Google Extension is further developed.

But the desktop app will not sync with my google contacts?

Not worried about it - not really a private number.

OK so your'e telling me the Google App displays the sending number in a pulldown menu just like the Android and Windows apps, but it can only be the extension number? I mean why add that functionality (the pulldown) and not actually utilize it?

Plus if I start a txt thread via company numbers elsewhere - it will show up in the Google APp and I can *reply* to it there and the txt comes from the correct number because the thread is maintained (ie if I have a company number 123-4567 and an extension 123-9999, if I start a txt thread elsewhere (say from the customer) on 123-4567, I can reply to it correctly via the Google App and it does NOT use 123-9999 for the reply.

So basically the Google App *supports* doing everything except sending a txt (or making a ext call) from a number other than the extension, even though it presents the number in a pulldown like there coudl be other numbers there.

That makes no sense at all.

I'm looking into this specifically with the Google Plugin.  I will update when I hear something back.
Thank you both for bringing this to my attention! :-)

Jason, this is currently a limitation of the google plugin.

The cynic in me would file a bug report saying the plugin is broken since ALL txts sent from the Google App, according to what you say, should *always* come from the logged in extension number. But if a text is received on the company number I can reply to it via the Google App and that txt WILL be sent using the company number instead of the extension number like the app displays.

Do you see where the confusion comes from? The App actually does everything it is supposed to do in regards to texting to/from company numbers *except* letting you select one in the pulldown with only one entry if you start a new txt thread. I mean if it can reply to existing threads using company numbers....
