We were installed a few years back and multiple ring groups were created for us.  Since then I’ve created a few mimicking what was previously done.  Now we have a total of 64 ring groups and the majority have never been activated.  The only ones that have been are ones that someone monitors/manages the voicemails or changes the greeting.  Are there any benefits to having ring groups activated?

Thank you

you are saying Ring Groups, but from the description of it, it sounds like you are talking about Call queues.

Enabled vs Not activated is dependent on whether the Call queue has a voicemail PIN set or not, but a PIN is not needed if you are getting your voicemails per email as an mp3 attachment... or if you are not using voicemail on the call queue.

BENEFIT:
the only benefit is that once Enabled the call queue will be visible in the company directory. You’ll be able to search for it by name or extension number.
If not activated it is only possible to call it by dialing the ext. number, and the app won’t offer you suggestions to auto complete the full ext. number as you type it.

These are definitely Ring Groups since they are setup under Users.  Would the same hold true?

Thank you

yes, I think it’s the same. I can’t think of any other limitation besides the ext. not appearing in the directory.

There might be some 3rd party app integrations that require the extension to be enabled, but you would have noticed by now if you were using one of those.

You are probably right.

Thank you for responding.
