Over the last week, people calling me can now leave 10 or 15 minute long voice messages if they want. For years, there was a 3 minute time limit and the message would get cut-off, which I prefer. How do I go back to only allowing a 3 minute max voice message?

Hi @bauer,

Is this behavior happening to all of your voicemail messages and for all numbers or just for some of the calls? Have you tried playing the voicemails to see if they are legitimate or if they are just silent recordings? Sometimes spam calls or misconfigured systems can leave long, blank voicemails. If they are silent, we can explore additional call handling options.

Hi @Crystal_  All numbers… I have 2 different messages from 2 different phone numbers who have called me and left messages. Both are people I know and not spam. They both talked for the entire time. One for about 8 minutes, the other for about 15 minutes. They used to get cutoff at 3 minutes max. I prefer that.

Absolutely agree with bauer,

This needs to be fixed ASAP. Why was it done without asking first? At the very least, provide an interface to adjust it. Extending the recording time has caused a lot of problems for our team.

Please address and fix it.

Yes, Crystal, this is the point: even employees don’t know that happened….

@bauer This appears to be an isolated issue. Can you please send me a private message with your account and contact details? We’ll coordinate this with our support team for further review and investigation.

@Crystal_ how can you consider this an isolated issue? Please see responses above from another Ring Central member...they are having the same issue too. I already called Ring Central support on December 10th and gave the representative all of my information, gave them the phone numbers that left the long messages and everything but yet there has been no communication since. I don’t believe this is an isolated issue. Who else out here is having this issue??

Not an isolated incident. Another customer here and same issue. This needs to be updated ASAP.

We have reported this issue to our internal team, who have noted similar reports from other users recently. They confirmed with the Product team that this behavior is not working as intended—voicemails should still be limited to three minutes.

Additionally, they identified this as a likely new bug introduced in the recent 24.4 update. Based on the latest update from a previously escalated case, our internal team has linked this behavior to a known issue.

For affected users, a support ticket must be submitted and tagged with the tracking number (RC-63273) for this known issue. This ensures that all impacted users will be notified once the issue is resolved.

I’m getting all sorts of spam calls, mainly from Texas that leave 5-12 minute blank messages. Sometimes 7 a day. I’m being charged $20 every few days for the overages.

This is happening to me too!  I told RingCentral that THEY are the only ones who benefit from these long voicemails as they charge me an additional $20/month.

I told them my next step is contacting my attorney general to see if they can look into this. If someone wanted to ‘scam’ me they would TALK.  Like I said, RC is the only one who benefits from this and it looks like it is happening to other users too.

Also- I am getting SILENT VOICEMAILS.  No one is talking at all.

The fix for me was to turn on: “Block robocalls on toll-free numbers” in the Admin account under Auto-Receptionist/General Settings.

Hi Crystal - any idea when this issue may be fixed? My callers are still being able to leave 8 and 9 minute voicemails. They are legitimate clients and not spam, but clients talking for almost 10 minutes.

Hi @ChristineE,

The fix for this Known Issue has been included in our upcoming release version. Please refer to the details below.

  • Known Issue Ticket Number: RC-63273
  • Status: Fix Release Scheduled
  • Release Schedule: Q2 2025

This ‘known issue’ is still not fixed on my account and I am STILL getting 10-12 minute long voicemails.

Also- will you be refunding your customers who were charged an extra $20/month for ‘calling credits’ when it was Ringcentral’s glitch?

I am getting these as well. I just had another 14:27 blank voice mail and immediately after that, I got the $20 bill for calling credits. Over December & January, I received at least 4 separate calling credit charges due to these constant 14 minute blank voice mails. I too would like to know about refunds for these “overages”.

When is the Q2 2025 update going to be released?  We too have users with very long (over 3 minute) voicemails.  I called support and they said the limit for voicemail length is 3 minutes and can’t be changed, but have screenshots of over 4 minute voicemails.

For an update, the agent said that the “feature” will be disabled so that we will no longer get voicemails that are over 3 minutes.  This should be communicated to admins or able to change the time limit in the portal, which cannot be done.

When will this “bug” be fixed??  We just had a 15+ minute voicemail left and are getting many over 5 minute messages still.  It’s incredibly annoying that this has not been fixed after reading through all these messages.  Now I’ll need to see if we are being charged for overages as well.

@MDelong @jiggs This bug has been resolved according to our Product Team.
Since that is the case, I would encourage you to reach out to support and report this bug.
There might be a quick fix that Support can assist with and, if not, the Product Team needs to know so they can revisit the issue.

Still happening. Received two calls last night from the same number, leaving 8 & 10 minute voice mails of background noise and typing. This is out of control.

I can back up @mperry and assure you that the bug is not fixed. Just in the last week we’ve received voicemails of 14:42, 9:21, 9:21, 8:15, 8:42, 13:04, 9:17, 9:31, 9:47, 8:10, and 8:43. Each contained random background noise on a 30-second loop, so there is absolutely intent.

As was mentioned above, the only benefactor of intentionally running up minutes on my 800 number is the carrier, so the fact that the very same carrier is making us jump through hoops to find a solution to a problem that was reported 6 months ago is a bit concerning.

@mperry @mikeb-1
Please create cases for this issue. The support team will funnel your concerns to the Product Team for review. If you already have cases, but share your case numbers with me and I will further escalate.

Hi, this is still an issue. I regularly receive 10-15 minute voicemails from clients. These are NOT random or spam calls. There needs to be a voicemail time limit set, or the user should be able to adjust/set a limit on their end.

I’m sorry to hear this, Eliza.
Do you have a case open? DM myself or @Mary-Community_Moderator and we can look into where your case stands.
If you don’t, I would recommend opening one. Then please do circle back and we can help to get it in front of the right teams.

Hi @BeckyH  and @Mary-Community_Moderator !

To address the reply made by @BeckyH to my previous message and the question she recently asked @ElizaS :  I have opened cases regarding this issue. Twice.

The first time, I called support and was told they would look into it. Shortly after the call ended, the case was marked “resolved and closed” and I received no further communications.

The second time, I submitted a case through the online portal and even attached a detailed call log showing dates, times, phone numbers and durations of the offending calls. That case was marked “resolved and closed” within hours — again, without any contact from anyone at RingCentral and no explanation or details given. When I reopened the case to request clarification, it was closed almost immediately a second time.

So while I appreciate the advice to open cases, RingCentral support has shown no willingness to speak to a customer about resolving this issue

For context: this past weekend alone I logged 1 hour and 52 minutes of junk voicemails. Since January, that’s 553 calls totaling nearly 14 hours.
