We have two phones in our office. I would like them to both ring at the same time so that either phone can answer the call

Hello @SLEAD! 👋

Great question! There are a few ways to set this up, and the best option really depends on how you want the phones to work. Below are some common setups you can consider, along with KB articles that walk you through each step.

Option A: Call Queue (Best for Teams)

This works well if the phones belong to two different users (for example, two receptionists) who both need to answer calls from the same main number.

How it works:
We create a group extension. When someone calls the main number, both users’ phones ring at the same time.

📘 KB Article: Creating and managing Call Queues

Option B: Shared Line Appearance (Best for Retail-style setups)

This is ideal if you want the phones to behave like a traditional key system. If Line 1 is in use on Phone A, Phone B will show a red light. You can also place a call on hold on one phone and pick it up on another.

How it works:
We create a Shared Line Group where multiple physical phones share the same line(s).

📘 KB Article: Intro to Shared Line Groups

Option C: Multi-Device User (Best for One Person)

Choose this if both phones are used by the same person (for example, one phone at a desk and another in a warehouse).

How it works:
We assign multiple desk phones to a single extension and configure Call Handling so all devices ring at the same time.

@SLEAD ,

It all depends if you want this to happen in a call center setup or just native RingEx.

  • If you want to track who answers the phone, I would recommend a call queue setup (Option A). You will create an account for each phone/person and then create a call queue and add those lines as call queue members and set the ring pattern to “simultaneous”. This will allow queueing, in case both lines are in use and people are still calling in.
  • If you don’t care about queueing or tracking, then you can add both devices to a single phone line (RingEx account) and it will behave the same way. They will work as twins/clones in case you want the line available in different locations (ex. you need an extension available at a front desk but also the same line at a warehouse or remote location).

Hope this helps,

Jose
