Question

Can a delegate line be assigned for outgoing calls?

On a Poly VVX450, can you assign a delegate line to be the primary (outgoing) calling line?  Specifically, if the user just picks up the phone to dial a number, their main extension (the upper left corner of phone, position 1) lights up.  The user has 3 delegate lines on positions 10,11,12 on the phone.  Can we default the outgoing call to use one of the delegate lines instead of the primary extension for the user?

The user can manually press one of the delegate buttons to make the call, but we are trying to simplify for them so they can just dial-out and it will be on the delegate line.

NOTE: We have Caller-ID for both their primary line and the delegate line to use the same #.

Hi Steve,

This was (still IS) one of the confusing areas in RC.

That default number is listed on the users outgoing tab - but not the one you’d expect:

Look at the bottom-right - that’s the one:  Alternate Caler ID - normally blank.

That will be the number the call goes out on, updating this with something other than the main company number will be shown when dialing.

So, if the mains are 562-456-9876 and you set the Alternate to 714-321-6547 then all their outgoing will be that 6547 number for the CID.

Is this what you were writing about?

Make sense?

If not, let us know more information.

Hey Joe,

It seems that Steve’s question wasn't fully answered, and I also need some guidance on this. Steve mentioned that he already has the Caller IDs set to match both the user's primary line and the delegated line, so setting the Alternate Caller ID won't change anything.

Steve is asking for the phone to automatically call out from the delegated line when a user picks up the handset, rather than the primary line.

The reason for this request is related to how delegation works. When delegation is set up between two users, they can simply put the call on hold and having the other user take it off hold. This makes managing calls between an attorney and an assistant much more effective.

However, when a user makes an outbound call, the phone automatically dials out on their primary line, not the delegated line. This means that if the attorney tries to put the call on hold, the assistant wouldn't be able to see the call because it wasn’t made on the delegated line.

Steve wants the attorney to be able to simply pick up the phone, and have it automatically connect to the delegated line when calling out, so that anyone connected to the delegated line can manage the calls.

By default, the phone always calls out on the primary line, which makes the delegation feature ineffective unless the attorney manually selects the delegated line before dialing. They can't just pick up the handset to make a call.

That makes sense, and I’ve not seen in RC where this could be applied in that order - perhaps @tak-it @tak-it1  would have deeper insight.

Thank you Joe for your quick reply much appreciated!
