A group message was created by someone else who does not use Ring Central. When a ring central member went to reply in the group message stating only his name in the text message “John Smith”- an error message then popped up saying “unable to send message. Exceeded maximum recipients for a group message MMS.”

But the other guy in the group message that was ring Central user could send a message just fine.

Also when a photo was sent in the group message the other Ring Central guy who had no problems sending a message then could not receive the photo that was being sent into the group message.

And the guy who couldn't send a message in the group message WAS able to see the photo.

Hi @Midstates Rec,

That “Exceeded maximum recipients for a group message MMS” error is actually expected behavior with RingCentral.

Here's why:

RingCentral's Group SMS feature (which becomes MMS when there are images or it turns into a threaded group chat) has a strict limit of 10 recipients. Since your group has 12 people, any RingCentral user trying to reply to that message. Even if it's just plain text, it will run into that limit and see this error.

The group chat may still work on your end because it was likely created by a non-RingCentral user, and their carrier might allow more than 10 participants in a group.

Hope that clears things up! Let me know if you have any other questions. 😊
