You're absolutely correct that the SMS Log is the place to view those text messages in the Admin Portal! It's a standard feature for administrators and should appear automatically; you generally don't need to create a custom report for it.
To view your SMS text messages for a line:

Log in to the RingCentral Admin Portal.

From the top menu, click on Reports.

Then, select SMS Log.
From this page, you can search by phone number, filter by direction, and even download logs for longer periods (up to one year) as a CSV file for detailed review.
