I have noticed that it is working with the (408) prefix version of the number but not the (888) version
Hi @vacuumwars,
The difference you’re seeing between your (408) and (888) numbers is actually a common call routing setup in RingCentral. Your (408) number is most likely a direct line to your extension, so it follows your personal settings. On the other hand, your (888) number is routed through the company’s main rules, which is why callers are hearing the “we are currently closed” message.
To fix this, you’ll just need to adjust how the (888) number is being handled in your call routing settings.
If you only want this number to play a custom message and go straight to voicemail without ringing any phones, the best practice is to route it to a "Message-Only Extension."
-
First, in the Admin Portal, go to Phone System > Groups > Message-Only Extensions.
-
Click New Message-Only Extension and follow the prompts to create one.
-
Record or upload your custom greeting to this new extension's Messages tab.
-
Then, go back to Phone System > Phone Numbers, click on your (888) number, and change the routing to this new Message-Only Extension.
