Persistent “Phone Calls Only” and “Cannot Recover” Errors on Android App

Hi all,
I’ve been running into persistent issues with the RingCentral Android app and wondering if others are experiencing the same — or have found a fix.

❗ The Errors I'm Seeing:

  1. Every time I open the Phone tab in the app, I get this popup:

    "Phone calls only"
Sorry, we are having a temporary server issue. You can continue to make and receive phone calls, but cannot use other features.

  2. Occasionally, I also get:

    "Cannot recover"
Sorry, we're having trouble recovering your app.

✅ What Works:

  • I can make and receive calls

  • Voicemail and fax features work fine

🛠️ What I've Tried:

  • Reinstalled the app

  • Cleared storage/cache

  • Granted all app permissions (Phone, Contacts, SMS, etc.)

  • Tried on Wi-Fi and mobile data

  • Verified that the app is not battery-optimized or restricted

  • The issue has been there since I first installed the app

I’m starting to wonder if it’s a provisioning problem (like messaging/SMS not enabled on the backend), but I can’t confirm.

Anyone else seeing this? Is this just cosmetic or is something actually broken?

Thanks!

Hi @davidortenn79

Thanks so much for providing such a detailed look at the problem! Your troubleshooting steps are incredibly thorough and you've done a great job of ruling out all the usual local issues.

This sounds like a backend provisioning or account configuration issue. Since you've already tried everything on your end, the app is probably failing to get a "go-ahead" from our servers for all services beyond just calling.

Unfortunately, this is an account-specific problem that the Community can't fix directly. The next and best step is to submit a Support ticket.

To make your call with them as quick and efficient as possible, be sure to mention:

  • The exact error messages you're seeing.

  • All the troubleshooting steps you've already completed.

  • Your phone's model and Android OS version.

This information will help them skip the basics and get right to investigating your account's configuration.

Hope you get this resolved soon!
