The link you shared indicates that for legal reasons, they must keep this on.

I just reviewed the KB again and my interpretation was that the legal requirement is in place if you have AI notes on and it is recording the discussion.

“A legally required announcement will play to all call participants indicating that transcription is on, and then the AI Assistant will begin transcribing the call and taking notes.”

If you turn notes off, the notification isn’t needed.
All that to say, you can’t have notes turned on without the notification.

Let me know your interpretation.

I apologize, as I can see how my statement could be misread.

In my statement, “this” refers to the audio notification (because “the audio notification” is the subject).

My statement, “The link you shared indicates that for legal reasons, they must keep this on,” is a direct answer to Danadentalbuyer’s question.

Danadentalbuyer: Is there a way to turn off the audio notification that AI is taking notes?
BeckyH: Shares a link
John Andreu: The link you shared indicates that for legal reasons, they must keep this on.

Or rather, the answer is “no.” The link you provided explains how to turn on AI notes, but considering the inquiry, Danadentalbuyer already knew how to enable Notes. However, the link you attached still had value because it explained why the verbal notification cannot be turned off (i.e., it remains on for legal reasons).

If Notes are turned off, the concern about the audio notification becomes irrelevant, as most users would not expect a verbal notification to persist when Notes are disabled.

What if we already indicated that the call is being recorded in our self recorded IVR?

The legal ramifications of using AI note-taking should primarily fall on the user in the initial stages of this product evolution. According to RecordingLaw.com, most states only require "one-party consent," which makes the RingCentral-AI-Note-Taking-audio-notification unnecessary in many cases. When I say that users should bear the legal consequences of using AI note-taking, I mean they should have the option to turn off this notification and accept the legal implications if they are in a state with an "all-party consent" rule.

Anytime a company restricts user choice or capabilities, it raises a red flag. RingCentral should empower users to decide whether to enable or disable this notification. Additionally, they should make every effort to inform users that by activating AI note-taking, they need to consider their state's audio recording laws.

I concur with this statement. You should not force your customers to use an audible notification of AI note taking. I would like to use this feature without alerting all of the boomers in my company to the fact that AI is transcribing the call for my notes. People don’t trust AI as it is, why alert them to the use of it when it doesn’t matter. I don’t live in Cali, so two party doesn’t matter. With that being said, you don’t audibly alert my users to any of the calls we record for quality, so why would you do it with AI?

Thanks,
Customer
