Why does the Nikon Web Cam utility crash in the app, but works fine in the browser version?

When I use the Nikon Web Cam utility for my camera in the Ring app, many times it will lock up the video and then won't show the option to use it anymore. I can join with the web app and it works fine in there. the utility is supported and works fine in Zoom.
