Hello,

All Android 15 users at our company that have installed the Dec ‘24 Pixel security patch are being logged out of the RC app when the app loses focus.

For example, so long as the app is on screen, all is fine.  However, if the app is swiped away (closed) or another app is on screen for too long and an RC call comes in or the app is brought back up, the user is sent back to the sign in screen and the call is disconnected.

Since I need my cell phone and desktop to ring simultaneously, this kills all calls on both devices.  So, the only workaround I’ve found is to forward all calls to my cell phone, which makes RC mostly useless.

Support has been unable to fix or provide a better workaround.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks!

The Android 15 update or the Pixel security patch may have introduced more stringent memory management or background activity restrictions, causing the RC app to lose its session when it goes out of focus. You can try the following and see if this will resolve the issue:

  • Check and Adjust Device Settings:

    • Go to the device's Settings > Apps > RingCentral > Battery and ensure it is set to "Unrestricted" or similar to allow the app to run in the background.
    • Disable any battery optimization features specific to the RC app.
  • Update the RC App:
Ensure you are running the latest version of the RingCentral app, as updates often include compatibility fixes.

  • Reinstall the App:
Uninstall and reinstall the RC app to ensure a fresh installation free of potential corruption.

  • Clear Cache and Data:

    • Go to Settings > Apps > RingCentral > Storage and clear the cache.
    • If the issue persists, clear data and re-log into the app.
  • Notifications Access

Ensure the app is allowed to send notifications, which keeps it semi-active in the background.

    1. Go to Settings > Notifications.
    2. Locate RingCentral and ensure all notification permissions are enabled.
  • App-Specific Permissions

Granting permissions to ignore certain system optimizations may help.

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Special App Access > Ignore Battery Optimization.
  2.  Find RingCentral and allow it to bypass battery optimization.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it’s worth exploring whether the issue is a deeper compatibility problem with Android 15 or the December 2024 security patch. You can provide feedback to the Pixel support for further assistance. You can also send me a private message so we can submit a support case and seek help from our app specialist team.

The only Battery option given for the RC App in Settings is whether or not to allow it to run in the background.  It’s enabled.

The RC App has had its cache and storage cleared, and it’s been uninstalled/reinstalled and updated.

All notification permissions are allowed.

There is no option to Ignore Battery Optimization in Special App Access on my Pixel 9 Pro XL.
