If HIPPA compliant setting is turned on, are SMS messages to external numbers HIPPA compliant?

Our goal is to be able to SMS text message patients at our medical practice in a HIPPA compliant manner.

SMS is generally not HIPAA compliant. This is a pretty interesting read .

You can also read more about RingCentral's HIPAA policy here.

At rest on our servers, the SMS is protected. But once it is in transit and has left our servers, we don't have any control over it.
