Hi Kandice, you can do this by going to the Admin Portal > Phone system > Auto-Receptionist > General Settings > Company Call Handling.

Under Business Hours, setup Incoming Callers will be routed to, then choose A specific user. It will prompt you to select a user extension where you want the calls to be routed. Select an extension and click Save. It's best to select an extension that no one is using personally, so it will not interrupt their personal call handling.

Next is to go to that user extension and change the settings. Go to Users > select the extension > go to call handling > enable Forward all calls > choose Contact or phone number. On the right, put the external number on the box, then click save.

Mary, you didn’t answer her question and i have the same one. I will try to be more clear. What we both want to know is how the forward the “Company” number to an outside number. For example, I have a call on my main line and I want to forward it to a twilio number outside of ringcentral. How is that done? Not a “User” number, but the MAIN number.

@carolina-painting
Mary actually answered the question - I will add some clarifications to what she already said:
The handling for the main number is under Phone System > Auto-receptionist.
It’s technically not possible to put a forward to an external number from the Auto-receptionist.
It is possible to forward to an external number from a user extension.
Therefore you need to use a user extension as a helper extension in forwarding calls - you can use a free user extension, i.e. one without a license for this purpose.

The call flow looks like this:
Company main number(Auto-Receptionist) > free User ext. > immediately forwards all calls to external number without ringing the user ext.

Important to note that the above is about “Forwarding” and not “Transferring”
Forwarding - call gets redirected to a different destination
Transferring - call first gets answered by a user. The user speaks with the caller and at some point decides to transfer them.

What happens when RingCentral is down? What happens then. When I had another provider I could log into my account and forward the main number to a cell phone.

I have forwarded the main number to an extension and then forwarded the extension to a cell phone. I don’t know if this will work because as far as I can tell the calls aren’t hitting RingCentral in the first place.

We found out today that this solution does not work if RingCentral is down.  Is there a way to forward calls to the main Ring central number to an external line?
