Question

Share one outbound phone line among multiple users (no physical phones, app only)

Hello,

We’re using RingCentral entirely on App (computers Mac/Windows and Mobile App iOS/Android), with no physical desk phones.

I’d like to allow multiple users to share two outbound phone lines, so we don’t have to pay for a separate direct line for every user.

Is there a way to configure this in RingCentral ?

Here’s our setup and what we’re trying to achieve:

  • No desk phones, only the RingCentral app;

  • Limit the number of simultaneous outbound calls (e.g. 2 max);

  • Allow all users to share the same main company number for outbound caller ID.

We are a team of 10 people, including two members in customer relations. My ideal would be to have two outbound call lines.

  • One reserved for my group: Customer Relations (2 members)
  • The second is available to everyone: 10 members (including my two customer relations members).

This avenue allows everyone to call while optimizing my monthly cost because it is rare that 2 outgoing calls are made at the same time.

Thank you for your help and any guidance on the best setup for this!

Best regards,

so you want to pay only for 2 users but have 10 or more people making outgoing calls?
Try this:
person1 uses desktopApp1
person2 uses webApp1
person3 uses mobileApp1
person4 uses Chrome integration1 (see https://www.ringcentral.com/apps/google-chrome )
person5 uses Teams embedded app1

person6 uses desktopApp2
person7 uses webApp2
person8 uses mobileApp2
person9 uses Chrome integration2
person10 uses Teams embedded app2

This means each person is using a different endpoint of the 2 extensions that you have at your disposal. It might work? And then imagine the possibilities if you were to add a 3rd license!

Hi Good!

Thanks for taking the time to respond with your idea.

I understand your point, but I find it hard to believe this is the only possible option!? (not viable for us)

I pay for phone lines;
If they were associated with a physical handset, I could have 5 or more handsets on the same line.
When the line is busy, my user would wait their turn.

I can't believe this isn't possible with the app.

At the cost of the lines, I'd be better off offering each employee a cell phone plan with another company!
Especially since 7 out of 10 people will make less than one call per year.…

If I can share incoming calls between multiple extension/users, then why wouldn't it be the same for outgoing calls!?

If they don’t make/receive more than 10 per month - make them Mobile users.  I would read up on that, as there are specific restrictions - but it would allow for all member to use the RC platofrm for chatting, etc.

Thanks, Joe, for your reply!

All my users already have mobile accounts.
But I can't find a way to give them access to an outgoing phone line. It seems I can only do this on physical devices.

The mobile users can go in their app > Settings > Phone > Enable Ring Out
Should allow them to make outgoing calls.
