Hi , anyone who can share what tools or site we can use to count actual segment of a text message , though we can see the segment on the exported report we want to first hand check how many characters are in an actual message before our users send them.

See sample below.

Hi @GCC2011,

If you’d like to check SMS segments before messages are sent, here are a few options you can try:

  • Online SMS segment counters – Tools like SMS Length Calculator (https://www.smslength.com/) or similar sites let you paste in your text and see how many segments it will use.

  • Character counting tools – Sites like https://charcounter.com/ can show you the exact character count. Keep in mind that SMS usually breaks into segments of 160 characters (or 70 if special characters are used).

  • RingCentral Reports – As you mentioned, the exported reports already show the actual segments used, but for a quick check before sending, the online calculators can be handy.

As a follow-up ,is it possible that the exported report from RingCentral shows a different number of segment count compared to the number being shown on the SMS length calculator ?

Hi @GCC2011,

Yes, it’s possible. Online SMS length calculators are useful for quick checks, but the exported report from RingCentral reflects the actual segments billed based on how the message was processed by the carrier.

Factors like special characters, emojis, or non-GSM characters can reduce the per-segment limit from 160 to 70 characters, which may cause the segment count to differ from what a generic calculator shows. The report is always the most accurate reference for what was actually sent and billed.
