My desk phone is no longer ending a phone call when I hang the receiver up. The call remains live and I have to manually press the end call button on the phone’s display screen. Has anyone experienced this and how do I fix it? I’ve looked in all of the settings on the phone and in the admin account. Help!

Hi @oandrade,

It sounds like the issue is related to the hook switch not properly registering when you hang up. The hook switch is the mechanism that detects whether the handset is on or off the cradle.

Here are a few things you can try, starting with the simplest:

  1. Reboot the Phone

  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the phone.

  • Wait about 30 seconds.

  • Plug it back in and let the phone fully boot up. This can often clear up minor glitches.

  1. Check the Handset and Cradle

  • Make sure the handset is sitting correctly in its cradle. Even a slight misalignment can prevent the hook switch from engaging properly.

  • Check the cradle area for any dust or debris. A can of compressed air can help clear it out.

  1. Inspect the Hook Switch

  • The hook switch is the small button or lever that gets pressed when the handset is on the cradle. Gently press it with your finger to see if it feels sticky or stuck.

  • If it’s sticky, you can carefully clean it with a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab—just be careful not to let any liquid get inside the phone.

  1. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Even if you’ve checked before, it’s worth double-checking for firmware updates for your phone model. Updates often fix these kinds of bugs.

  1. Factory Reset (Last Resort)

  • If none of the above work, a factory reset might help. Keep in mind this will erase custom settings, contacts, and call history, so you’ll need to set it up again.

  • The exact steps depend on your phone model, so check the manual or manufacturer’s website.

If you’ve tried all of these and the issue still happens, the hook switch itself might be physically damaged, and the phone may need repair or replacement.

I hope one of these steps helps! Let me know how it goes or if you need any guidance along the way.
