How can you test an API without running against a live environment ? The API we are creating is to remove users from the RC company account when they have left the business. even though we have a dummy user in the system, there is always a small risk of something going wrong and lots of accounts being removed by mistake

If you want to test that operation directly on your production account, the only way to minimize the risk is to carefully check the extension ID of the extension to be deleted. You can login the the account admin portal, select that user extension then copy the extension ID from the page url. E.g. below
