Hi folks!

I’ve a quick question:

  • What's is the difference between OtherPhone and SoftPhone device ?
  • What exactly happens when I change Softphone’s device type to OtherPhone and what side effects I might expect ?

I’m building a feature which only works with OtherPhone devices but most of my clients has only SoftPhone device, I’m asking to change their device type to OtherPhone, but some of them worried and refusing, I did some research to know its side effects but wanted to learn more from community as well!

Thanks in advance!

SoftPhone refers to the RingCentral soft phone implemented by RingCentral. OtherPhone (Existing phone) can be any compatible desk phone for supporting BYOD, or any SIP phone developed by a 3rd party developer.

If the user has the RingCentral soft phone provisioned, changing the phone to other phone will require provisioning the new phone to get it work.

My clients just uses RingCentral’s official app besides my app, doesn’t that change cause problems with using RingCentral’s official app ?

Can you be more specific with RingCentral’s official app? Is it the RC app (also desk top or web app) or the RingCentral soft phone app?

I guess it’s “RC app (also desk top or web app)” + RingCentral’s mobile app.

can you share examples of “RingCentral soft phone app” please ?
