Before we dive into system settings, is this happening with every single voicemail you receive, or is it just affecting a select few? (If it's just one or two specific messages, the sender might have just had a dropped connection or dead air before hanging up).

If it is happening to all of them, here are two quick things we can check that usually solve this specific problem:

1. Check the Dedicated App Speaker Setting

The RingCentral app has its own separate audio router that doesn’t always match your computer’s main volume settings.

  1. In the RingCentral desktop app, click on Settings (the gear icon) on the bottom left.

  2. Click on Audio.

  3. Under Output, look at the Speaker source dropdown. Even if you aren't using a headset, the app might be trying to send the audio to a virtual audio device, a plugged-in monitor, or an old bluetooth device. Manually switch this dropdown to your actual computer speakers (like Realtek Audio or Built-in Speakers) and click Test speaker.

2. The Windows "Exclusive Control" Conflict

Sometimes Windows allows other apps (like Microsoft Teams or Zoom) to completely lock down your sound card, which blocks RingCentral from making a peep.

  1. Right-click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner of your Windows taskbar and select Sound settings.

  2. Click on More sound settings (or look for the Sound Control Panel).

  3. Under the Playback tab, right-click your active computer speakers and choose Properties.

  4. Go to the Advanced tab at the top.

  5. Uncheck the box that says "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device."

  6. Click Apply, then OK, and restart your RingCentral app to test a voicemail again.

Give those a shot and let me know how it goes!
