Setting up a PA System for paging

Thank you Mary.  I was able to complete all those steps.  When I add the paging device - it will give me a red x in status.  how does it know where to connect?  Our old system had a telephone number attached to it.

You're very welcome, and great job getting through those steps! If you're seeing a red “X” in the status after adding the paging device, it usually means the device isn’t successfully registering with RingCentral’s servers.

Here are a few things to check:

1. SIP Credentials – Make sure the paging device is configured with the correct SIP username and password from the RingCentral Admin Portal. These are generated when you assign the device to a user or extension.

2. Network Configuration – Confirm that the device has internet access and isn’t being blocked by a firewall or router. Ports 5060 (UDP) and others used by SIP may need to be open.

3. Provisioning – The device doesn’t get a phone number in the traditional sense, but it does register to a RingCentral extension or digital line. Once registered, you can page it via an extension number.
   
   Since the device is still showing a red status, I recommend opening a support ticket so our technical team can take a closer look and assist you further. You can do that here:

I do have a digital line in my inventory.  How do I connect it to the paging device?

I think the issue is we have a Viking PA-2A speaker system and it doesn’t work with Ringcentral.

We have a cisco analog adapter.  Does RingCentral support that?

Since you have a digital line with RingCentral, directly connecting it to your analog Viking PA-2A paging system isn't a plug-and-play scenario. Digital lines transmit voice data over IP (Internet Protocol), while analog paging systems operate with traditional analog signals.

To bridge this gap, you'll need an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA). The ATA converts the digital VoIP (Voice over IP) signal from your RingCentral digital line into an analog signal that your Viking PA-2A can understand.

You are correct that the Viking PA-2A, being an analog paging amplifier, doesn't directly "work with" RingCentral in the same way a SIP-based IP speaker would. However, as mentioned above, you can make them compatible using an ATA.
