Shared contact list

Is the shared contact list feature not added yet? We do believe its an important and very helpful feature.

Following up on this sine the note was 2 years ago - is this still not an option to have a shared contact list so if we save a number with a name it will show up right on our CallerID when they call any of our lines?

Currently, there isn't a dedicated API endpoint available to manage the shared directory of external contacts in the RingCentral Admin Portal. At this time, external contacts must be managed manually through the Admin Portal by uploading a contact list template, as detailed in the support article shared by Mary.

To update the directory with new external contacts, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Download the Current List: Export the existing external contact list from the Admin Portal.
2. Edit the List: Add the new contact(s) to the exported file while ensuring the formatting matches the required template.
3. Re-Upload: Upload the updated list back to the Admin Portal, replacing the previous version.

This process ensures all contacts remain consistent and properly formatted, but it does involve manual intervention for updates.

If you're looking for programmatic management of external contacts, this capability might not yet be supported. We recommend submitting this functionality as a feature request in the RingCentral Ideas Portal so the development team can review and potentially prioritize this in future updates.

From what I read in this thread, it seems like the only way to create a shared contacts list is by uploading a CSV document. Is this correct? If so, this is so cumbersome!!

I found this thread because I was looking for a way to manually add a shared contact as well. 

When a call comes in, I had been going into call log and adding them as a contact through my app. I didn’t realize that was not visible to others on my team, and it is frustrating to learn that as new calls come in, I would need to download and reupload the CSV each time.

technically you don’t need to “download” each time. For example:

- download .csv once. 
- store the .csv file somewhere.
- upload.
- new call comes in -> add contact to stored .csv file
- upload the same but updated. csv file weekly/monthly 

But yeah I am sure RC will sooner or later improve this feature. Imagine if it was possible to add shared contacts from your app call log! There could also be a permission in the portal “allow user to save contacts to shared directory” … one can dream.

That is true, I could just keep the one master file. Thanks for that small piece of info I just missed!

I’m on another thread in a different tab about the “ignore” function while in a call queue, and it is 4 years old with no improvements, so I’m not too sure about RC improving this. Adding from the app would be amazing! But I would also settle for just being able to manually add them from the admin portal without uploading a .csv
